Skate Bud released a new edition of their newsletter focusing on some of the differences between Street and Ramp skating.
Street skating is for the people: it's right outside your door anywhere you go–if you want to be a street skater nobody can stop you. Ramp skating is for a privileged sect: you need access to a ramp, and if you want to be a ramp skater you first have to be accepted by the rulers of the ramp. And “acceptance,” is just shorthand for “you already know how to behave based on our rules, and if we let you in, then we won't be. burdened with teaching you our rules or our history.” If you want to be a street skater you are in control and nobody can tell you no. If you want to be a ramp skater you are asking for permission, and unless you have the time and money and space to build your own ramp, you will always need to get permission before you skate.
